What is PDRN? The Korean Skin Treatment Everyone is Talking About in 2026

    By Haku Dublin · 2026

Korean dermatology has used PDRN for years. It is only now reaching Irish clinics, and clients are beginning to ask about it.

At Haku, we introduced Genosys Bio-Meso PDRN to our treatment menu earlier this year, making us one of the first clinics in Ireland to offer it. Here is what it is, and whether it is something your skin needs.

    What is PDRN?

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide. It is a molecule derived from salmon DNA, chosen because salmon DNA is unusually compatible with human DNA, which allows it to interact with the skin without triggering an immune response.

It is not a new discovery. PDRN has been used in wound healing and surgical recovery in medical settings for decades. What is newer is its use in aesthetic skincare, where Korean dermatologists have applied it with consistent results for scarring, pigmentation, and skin regeneration.

The mechanism is straightforward. PDRN stimulates a specific receptor in the skin that activates the body's natural repair process, increasing collagen production, improving hydration at a cellular level, and encouraging the skin to rebuild itself from within. The results develop gradually, over weeks rather than days.

How is PDRN different from other treatments?

Most clinical treatments work from the outside in. Peels resurface. Lasers create controlled damage. Microneedling punctures. All of these prompt the skin to respond and repair.

PDRN works differently. Rather than creating injury and waiting for the skin to respond, it directly activates the skin's repair mechanism. It is regenerative rather than corrective.

This is also why PDRN pairs well with microneedling. The microneedling creates channels, the PDRN enters through them and accelerates recovery while amplifying the regenerative response. At Haku we offer both separately and in combination.

What is the Genosys Bio-Meso PDRN treatment at Haku?

Genosys is a Korean professional skincare brand used in clinical settings across South Korea, Japan, and Europe. We use Genosys across our clinical treatments, for microneedling serums, post-treatment aftercare, and now for Bio-Meso PDRN.

The Bio-Meso system delivers PDRN into the skin using micro-spicules, very fine natural structures within the formula that create microscopic channels on contact. There are no needles. The treatment is comfortable, with no required downtime, and suits most skin types including sensitive skin.

It is available at both our Ranelagh and Blackrock locations.

    What does the treatment involve?

The treatment takes approximately 60 minutes.

Your therapist begins with a skin assessment to understand your concerns, whether that is scarring, pigmentation, dehydration, or general skin quality. The skin is then cleansed before the Bio-Meso serum is applied.

As the formula makes contact with the skin, the micro-spicules create the channels through which PDRN penetrates to the dermis. A soothing mask or recovery serum follows. Most clients notice a slight warmth or flush immediately after, which settles within a few hours.

Improved hydration and a brighter quality to the skin are usually visible within 48 to 72 hours of a first session. Deeper improvements to scarring, pigmentation, and texture build gradually over the following weeks.

    Who is PDRN suitable for?

    PDRN is well suited to:

    • Acne scarring, it encourages the skin to remodel scar tissue over a course of treatments, improving texture and reducing the appearance of marks.
    • Hyperpigmentation, it supports more even skin cell turnover, gradually brightening uneven tone.
    • Dehydrated or dull skin, it restores the skin's ability to hold moisture at a cellular level, rather than temporarily plumping the surface.
    • Ageing skin, it stimulates collagen production gradually, improving firmness and softening fine lines.
    • Sensitive or compromised skin, it is one of the gentler clinical treatments available, well tolerated by reactive and rosacea-prone skin types.
    • Post-treatment recovery, it works particularly well after more intensive treatments such as microneedling, chemical peels, or laser, supporting faster healing.

PDRN is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for those with a fish allergy.

    How many sessions are needed?

A single session produces a noticeable improvement in hydration and skin quality. For more significant results, with scarring, pigmentation, or loss of elasticity, a course of three to six sessions spaced two to four weeks apart is recommended.

Some clients use PDRN monthly as a maintenance treatment. Others incorporate it after more intensive clinical work as a recovery and amplification step.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is PDRN?

PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a molecule derived from salmon DNA that activates the skin's natural repair process. It stimulates collagen production, improves cellular hydration, and encourages the skin to regenerate from within. It has been used in wound healing for decades and is now applied in aesthetic skincare, where Korean dermatologists have used it with consistent results.

Is PDRN the same as a salmon DNA facial?

Yes. Salmon DNA facial is the informal name. The active ingredient is polydeoxyribonucleotide, extracted from salmon DNA because of its compatibility with human DNA. The Genosys Bio-Meso treatment at Haku uses this in a professional clinical formula.

How many PDRN sessions do I need?

One session produces a visible improvement in hydration and skin quality. For deeper results with scarring, pigmentation, or ageing skin, a course of three to six sessions spaced two to four weeks apart works best.

What is the downtime after a PDRN facial?

There is minimal downtime. Some clients experience slight redness or warmth immediately after, which settles within a few hours. Most return to normal activities the same day.

Where can I get a PDRN facial in Dublin?

Haku offers the Genosys Bio-Meso PDRN facial at both our Ranelagh and Blackrock locations. We are one of the first clinics in Ireland to offer it. Book a consultation at haku.ie.

    Is PDRN better than microneedling?

They work differently. Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels to stimulate collagen. PDRN activates the skin's repair mechanism directly. The two work well together, PDRN applied after microneedling accelerates healing and amplifies results. At Haku we offer both as standalone treatments and in combination.
