Is a PDRN facial worth it?

Haku's PDRN Bio-Meso Facial costs €200 for 40 minutes at Haku Ranelagh and Haku Blackrock. Whether it is worth it depends on what you expect. Research on PDRN is promising but small, most of it tested injections rather than facials, and the clearest results are in wound healing. Expect a gentle skin treatment, not dramatic change.

    What is PDRN?

Polydeoxyribonucleotide: purified DNA fragments taken from the sperm of salmon or trout.

Laboratory and clinical work suggests it calms inflammation and supports repair, mainly through the adenosine A2A receptor.

    What does the research show?

Promising results, from small studies, mostly of injections.

A 2024 systematic review of polynucleotides (the family PDRN belongs to) found nine studies with 219 people, all using injections, of low to moderate quality. A 2026 review of randomised trials found seven trials with 183 people; the most consistent benefit was faster wound healing, and the authors call the evidence limited by small, varied studies.

A second 2026 review found no published randomised trial of PDRN after a peel, laser or microneedling in aesthetic patients. It notes that PDRN on the skin matters most when the skin barrier is open; unbroken skin is a tighter barrier.

What does that mean for a facial?

Studies of injections don't tell you what a facial will do.

Skin may look more hydrated after a session. Any change to texture or marks would build over several sessions.

    What can't it do?

There is no good evidence yet that a PDRN facial on its own removes scars, lifts skin or changes wrinkles.

It is a facial, not a medical treatment. Results vary.

What about PDRN or polynucleotide injections?

They are a separate, medical procedure, and Haku doesn't do them.

PDRN and polynucleotides are related DNA-based ingredients, and research reviews often study them together. An injection puts the product into the skin, and some injectable polynucleotide products are CE-marked in Europe as class III medical devices. Haku's PDRN Bio-Meso Facial is a facial, not an injection.

For cosmetic injectables such as fillers, the HPRA advises going to a qualified healthcare professional, such as a doctor, and asking whoever injects you about their qualifications and experience.
