    Acne and acne scarring: treatments at Haku, Dublin

    What can help acne and acne scarring?

    At Haku, the options for congested, breakout-prone skin are the Hygiene Facial (€135) and PCA peels (from €129) at both salons, and HydraFacial (€190) at Haku Blackrock. For scarring there is microneedling (€200, both salons) and Nordlys Frax laser (€380, Haku Ranelagh), which aren't for active acne. Results vary.

    The six options, side by side

    The gentlest first.

    Downtime

    PCA peels:
    Skin feels tight on the first day, with light, powdery flaking from day two to day five. Wear SPF 50 every day for two weeks.
    Microneedling:
    Expect mild redness, like light sunburn, for 24 to 48 hours, and possibly light flaking on day three. Wear SPF 50 every day for two weeks.
    Nordlys Frax laser:
    Expect redness like a strong sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, then fine, dry peeling and bronzing for three to five days. Wear SPF 50 every day for four weeks.
    PDRN Bio-Meso Facial:
    Some mild redness is possible for a few hours. Wear SPF 50 for the week after.

    When to see your GP

    See your GP first if your acne:

    • is severe or painful, or is on your chest and back as well
    • hasn't improved with pharmacy products
    • is leaving scars, or is getting you down

    Prescription treatment may be what it needs. We don't diagnose skin conditions, and microneedling and Nordlys Frax are not for active acne.

    Questions

    Can I have microneedling or Nordlys Frax with active acne?

    No. Neither is suitable with active acne or infection in the area. A facial or a PCA peel may suit better while you have breakouts; ask us.

    Can I have microneedling or Nordlys Frax while I'm on isotretinoin (Roaccutane)?

    No. Microneedling isn't suitable while you're taking isotretinoin, and Nordlys Frax isn't suitable now or within six months of stopping it.

    How many sessions will I need?

    It depends on your skin and the treatment, and results vary. Your therapist suggests a plan once they've seen your skin.

    Do I need a patch test?

    Some treatments need one first, so ask us before you book. A patch test at Haku is free and takes five minutes in the salon. If there is no reaction after 24 hours, you're clear for the treatment: book it at the desk during the test, or online from 24 hours after.

    How does the deposit work?

    A 50% deposit secures your booking. You can change it free up to 24 hours before, and the balance is paid in the salon.
